Simulation and test results of an innovative CO2 residential monoblock heat pump for domestic hot water.

Résumé

Dynamic simulations are important not only in predicting test behaviors but also in being the link between the thermodynamical design and the control strategy design for a specific unit. In small residential heat pumps (HP) producing domestic hot water (DHW) and working with carbon dioxide (CO2) as refrigerant, this is even more important in order to predict the rapid pressure change according to the working condition and consequently define the proper control. This work aims to describe a dynamic numerical model with Amesim
for a small DHW CO2 HP and validate it with experimental results obtained with a baseline prototype. Different control strategies have been simulated, as well as several correlations for the heat transfer coefficient are applied. The experimental results showed less than a 5% deviation related to the predicted performance. Therefore, in the next pilot stage, more advanced cycle architectures and optimization will be applied to gain another +15% efficiency improvements.
