Simulation numérique de pointe des explosions de gaz pour l'évaluation de la sécurité des installations de GNL.

Advanced numerical simulation of gas explosions for assessing the safety of LNG plants.

Résumé

To aid in such assessments, JGC has used advanced numerical simulation, integrating 3D-CAD data, computational fluid dynamics and finite element analysis. This paper presents case studies in which such integrated advanced numerical simulation is to predict gas diffusions, gas explosions, blast pressures and structural responses, and these case studies demonstrate that the following conditions are necessary for explosions in typical LNG plants: gas concentrations close to the theoretical fuel/air ratio of 1 (i.e., 4.0 vol.% propane in air, or 9.5 vol.% methane in air); sufficient gas cloud diameter and height to sustain the expansion flow; both, small and large obstacles, to create strong turbulence. The integrated explosion simulation can provide detailed information that can be used to assess safety during the design an LNG plant.
