The paper presents a summary of the whole problem of the environment and refrigerants with worldwide action through the Montreal Protocol and the future Kyoto Protocol. The paper discusses the alternatives to CFCs and HCFCs for various refrigeration applications and the effect on the ODS phaseout process due to control on HFCs.
