Résumé

This study investigates the supercooling behavior of sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate (Na₂S₂O₃·5H₂O) as a latent heat storage material for low-grade heat utilization. Although it exhibits a solid–liquid phase change at 48.2 °C with high energy storage density, its practical use is limited by severe supercooling and the formation of the dihydrate phase. Cooling experiments on aqueous solutions of various concentrations showed that increasing concentration reduced the degree of supercooling; however, crystallization did not occur even at 45 K. The addition of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) improved concentration homogeneity, suppressing supercooling and promoting pentahydrate crystallization in some cases. Nevertheless, at least 35 K of supercooling still remained, indicating insufficient improvement for practical application. Further experiments using nucleation-promoting additives were conducted, but none significantly reduced supercooling.
