Sur la modélisation informatique de l'accumulation thermique dans de la pierre naturelle traitée avec des matériaux à changement de phase.

On the computational modelling of thermal energy storage in natural stone treated with PCMs.

Résumé

The potential of PCM treated natural stone to be used as construction material with the ability to store thermal energy, is numerically investigated. Initially, in order to experimentally demonstrate the effectiveness of this concept, a number of "model" concrete pilot stations were constructed. The façades of the pilot stations were covered with a particular type of a Spanish marble treated with and without PCMs. Variations of temperature in different spots inside the "model" pilot stations have been monitored for several day-night cycles. An improvement in human comfort and a reduction of energy consumption can be anticipated due to the implementation of PCMs. This work focuses on the development of a computational model using the MATLAB software, to account for the heat transfer phenomena involved in the examined pilot station cases. The heat storing and releasing efficiency of the PCM treated natural stone is also considered in the presented modelling approach. The performance of the developed computational tool is evaluated with respect to the afore mentioned measurements. It is shown that a good agreement between computational results and experimental data can be achieved and discussion is mainly focused on the PCM influence, when added to the natural stone façade.
