Résumé

A latent heat transportation system (LHTS) using a phase change material (PCM) that uses a direct-contact latent heat exchanger with an extremely simple structure to store and release the latent heat of PCMs – is quite attractive. In this study, first, we experimentally investigated the heat storage and release performance of a direct-contact latent heat exchanger using erythritol (melting point: 118°C) as a PCM and a heat transfer medium (HTM). Second, we evaluated the LHTS using erythritol from viewpoint of energy requirement and CO2 emission, based on the ex-perimental results. In the experimental study, we found that the both of heat storage rate and heat release rate increase as increase of flowrate of HTM. The results of the system analysis showed the LHTS using erythritol can considerably reduce the energy requirement and CO2 emission, as com-pared to the conventional system with fossil fuel consumption on site; LHTS using erythritol had an energy requirement of 12.6% and CO2 emission of 9.48% as compared to the conventional system.
