Résumé

In this paper, a study of CO2 brines system energy efficiency is presented. The article focuses mainly on industrial refrigeration applications; however the results are applicable to commercial refrigeration systems (supermarkets) as well. Calculations show that CO2 secondary systems give a possibility of energy savings in the range of 10-20% for high temperature (HT) systems and more than 20-30% for medium temperature systems. It is difficult to get a direct comparison of industrial plants with secondary cooling systems. The authors are presenting their analysis of the energy consumption of two similar plants, one running with glycol, and another one with CO2. The article also discusses different control strategies for CO2 secondary systems, such as intelligent evaporator control as well as deforst possibilities. With the right control combination CO2 secondary systems represent a great opportunity for both using environmentally friendly refrigerants and improving energy efficiency.
