Résumé

Metering the flow of liquid hydrogen is a technical challenge because of the nature of this product. Liquid hydrogen is normally stored at low pressure in vacuum insulated tanks at temperatures as low as -252°C. In order to prevent excessive heat transfer, all components which come in direct contact with liquid, must be vacuum insulated including the flow meter section. Those components have to be capable of withstanding huge changes in temperature over many cycles. The use of a maintenance free orifice type flow meter section with no moving parts eliminates the need of later access and can therefore become integral part of the pipe system. This results in a smaller design especially helpful in space constraint installations. Density compensation is achieved by the flow processor based on liquid temperature which is directly measured using a state-of-the-art silicon diode, superior to common RTD sensors. The orifice based flow metering system Flowcom2000 for liquid hydrogen offers excellent accuracy and high reliability.
