Résumé

The article outlines key development areas and results for CO2 systems in Europe. Initially, a brief introduction of the particular properties of CO2 as a refrigerant is given, before the status and trends within selected areas of technology are discussed, including heat pump water heaters, mobile air conditioning and heat pumps, commercial refrigeration, and heat pumps for space conditioning. Some comments are given regarding component development, mainly focusing on compressors. Finally, some concluding remarks are given on general trends and outlook for the next years.
