Résumé

A laboratory test stand for magnetocaloric effect investigations was developed. The test stand is compact and enables easy modifications in the configuration of parts. Gadolinium in the form of particles was used as refrigerant. The material is magnetized/demagnetized due to a reciprocating motion of a magnetic bed. A Halbach array was employed as magnetic field source. It provides a magnetic field of about 1 T. A special fluid was used as heat transfer medium. A cooling subsystem based on the Peltier effect was used. It allows to keep the temperature of the hot heat exchanger at a steady level, hence a lower temperature of the cold heat exchanger can be achieved. The first results obtained for gadolinium are promising – the temperature difference between the heat exchangers amounted to 2°C.
