Résumé

The magnetic refrigeration and heat pump technology presents a future alternative to the conventional cooling, refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump technologies. It shows a good potential for high efficiencies, it uses environmentally friendly solid refrigerants, it is noiseless in its operation and has an inherent potential for a high compactness. These key features will be important for this technology to approach the market. Up-to-present more than thirty published prototypes have been designed, calculated and partly optimized. In this article, because of its limited size, only five characteristic prototypes of room-temperature magnetic refrigerators are presented. Furthermore, some future aspects and developments of magnetic refrigerators are highlighted.
