Résumé

The performance of adsorption chillers is commonly measured by two competing objectives: efficiency and power density. Both performance measures depend strongly on the control strategy [1]. The control strategy of one-bed adsorption chillers can be described by two parameters: the cycle time and the ratio between adsorption and desorption phase times. Long cycles promote efficiency, whereas short cycles promote power density. The phase times should be allocated according to the dynamics of adsorption and desorption to maximise performance [2]. This maximum performance can be described by a Pareto frontier showing the trade-off between efficiency and power density. To optimise performance during operation, Sapienza et al. [3] proposed a
performance map for the control parameters. Creating such a performance map requires many experiments to determine the optimal cycle time and phase time ratio for all possible operation conditions. Alternatively, control parameters could be adjusted online, e.g. by model-predictive control (MPC) [4, 5]. MPC sets high requirements on model accuracy and optimisation speed which makes practical implementation challenging.
