Résumé

The use of CO2 is now a well-established reality in the refrigeration industry due to the development of new methods to increase the efficiency of the systems in which it is utilized. To achieve maximum operating efficiency of the cycle, the CO2 gas cooler outlet temperature should be as low as possible.. Limiting the impact of high ambient temperatures is obviously difficult to achieve with a traditional air-cooled heat exchanger. However, a gas cooler can be equipped with adiabatic panels which pre-cool the air entering the unit. This paper describes the functional principle of the adiabatic gas cooler, illustrating a case study in which the operating costs of a plant equipped with adiabatic panels are compared with a traditional solution. The accuracy of the prediction tool adopted for this technology is proven showing the fair agreement of predicted values with actual measured data of a real field case study.
