Auteurs : NICOL F., RAJA I.

Résumé

In 1993-94, comfort surveys were undertaken by Oxford Brookes University in five cities in different climatic zones of Pakistan. The surveys showed big variations in the temperatures which people find comfortable. In 1995-96, a second survey was undertaken using several hundred subjects at monthly intervals over a whole year. The paper concentrates on the findings of the second survey. The variation of comfort vote and discomfort with indoor temperature and of comfort temperature with indoor and outdoor temperature are analyzed. Both surveys show that comfort temperature varies with indoor and outdoor temperature in a way which is consistent with an adaptive approach to thermal comfort. The adaptive use of building controls and clothing are analyzed. The surveys also indicate the limits of people's ability to adapt to indoor temperatures.
