Résumé

All over the world a number of CO2 development and demonstration projects continue. Of the most advanced and also most promising/realistic of these projects the author mentions car air conditioning plants, low temperature cascade plants (CO2-ammonia) as well as the application of CO2 as a secondary refrigerant. To this may be added a number of other CO2 development projects which, so far, have been at the research/stage. Of these the author mentions big heat pumps, low temperature dry ice slurry (below -56 deg C), as well as CO2 mixtures with a lower pressure for conventional, mix-cascade and resorption plants. Furthermore, a number of investigations are being carried out continuously in order to find other potentials and suitable applications, both on land and at sea. In view of the physical and environmental conditions of CO2 as well as the on-going development projects, the return of CO2 as a refrigerant in at least two or more applications is thought to be highly probable. And its commercial breakthrough is expected to become a reality within the next 5 to 8 years.
