Résumé

The paper discusses the modifications needed in the R22 system to use alternate refrigerants, such as R290, R134a, R152a and the R290/R600a (60:40 by mass) mixture. The parameters analysed are: work of compression, condenser duty, displacement volume, starting torque, COP, and isentropic discharge temperatures. The air conditioner analysed was 0.75 ton capacity. The theoretical results obtained can be used as guidelines to conduct the experiments with alternate refrigerants after incorporating the necessary alteration in the system. The design of the evaporator was also studied, as well as the possibilities of reducing the fan power input.
