Résumé

The paper reports a performance analysis of a hybrid air-conditioning system. In this system, the sensible heat load is primarily treated by a vapour compression heat pump, and the latent heat load by a liquid dehumidification system that uses a lithium-chloride solution as a desiccant. The vapour compression heat pump is used to cool the air in summer and heat it in winter. An additional vapour compression heat pump is used to precool or regenerate the desiccant solution used in the dehumidification system. By decreasing the humidity ratio of the air that is passed through the outdoor heat exchanger of the vapour compression heat pump, frosting can be retarded. The overall system performance is evaluated and the cycle simulation results for both the summer and winter modes are presented. As compared to the traditional air-conditioning system, the hybrid air-conditioning system can improve the COP by approximately 20% in summer and by approximately 100% in winter.
