Résumé

For the ongoing programme on superconducting linear accelerator at Delhi, an off-line test cryostat is developed for the performance testing of cavity at 4.5 K prior to installation in beam line. Conventional annular stainless steel vessel filled with LN2 with a copper jacket is preferred as an intermediate shield. It is understood that free convective heat transfer coefficient between unexposed stainless steel surface and copper sheet is very much higher than the conduction heat transfer along the length of shield. It is estimated that top temperature of stainless steel shield with copper jacket is approx. 105 K when level falls below 1 m as against 240-247 K without copper jacket. The paper presents theoretical analysis on heat transfer to evaluate the temperature gradient and compares with the measured data.
