Résumé

The air-to-refrigerant evaporator placed in no-frost refrigerators is a critical component because of its simultaneous treatment of both cooler and freezer air streams. The low refrigerant temperature necessary to cool the freezer implies a strong drying process on the cooler air flow. The corresponding frost formation is a non-desired phenomenon, generating an additional heat transfer resistance and an airflow blockage. This paper presents an experimental unit that has been constructed to analyse this kind of evaporators. It mainly consists of a closed air-loop with airflow, temperature and humidity control and a refrigerating system providing a controlled flow of refrigerant at desired conditions. The unit is designed to work both with single phase coolant and evaporating refrigerant. Some experimental results are presented, focusing on the analysis of the heat and mass transfer behaviour of the evaporator. Some additional local results are given, such as inlet flow conditioning or local tube temperature measurements.
