Résumé
Considerable R1234yf development work has been underway in the automotive industry over the past several years. Recently Del Col et al. (2010) demonstrated that the heat transfer coefficient during in-tube condensation of R1234yf in a single minichannel is lower than that of R134a. Cavallini et al. (2010) theoretically showed through an exergy analysis that, under the same saturation temperature, in a condenser optimized for R134a the heat flux that can be rejected with R1234yf is lower that for R134a. Therefore, it becomes important to investigate the behaviour of components, such as an off-the-shelf minichannel tube-and- fin condenser used in mobile air conditioning with R134a. The experimental campaign was conducted on a test rig at the University of Padova used for testing refrigerating equipment with air as the secondary fluid. The performance comparison between R134a and R1234yf was done at the same air flow rate, with temperatures ranging between 15 and 35°C. A simulation tool was validated using the experimental data: for calculation purposes, the heat exchangers are divided into a series of small three-dimensional cells. Correlations from the open literature were used to predict the refrigerant-side heat transfer coefficient, pressure drop, and void fraction. The air-side heat transfer coefficients are assumed to be uniform and constant over the entire heat exchanger face area. The simulation tool was used to perform parametric studies to compare the performance potentials of the two refrigerants.
