Appareil mobile à cycle à air pour le chauffage et le conditionnement d'air d'immeubles.

Packaged air cycle machine for heating and cooling buildings.

Auteurs : GIGIEL A., HOLDER D.

Résumé

Previous work has identified that energy consumption and CO2 emissions can be reduced by using air cycle heating and cooling in some types of buildings. In the paper a 100 kilowatt packaged water chiller and heater was investigated to identify the best configuration of components and to establish their physical size and performance characteristics. The resulting cooling and heating output, shaft power and electrical input power to the system for a range of control options in different ambient temperatures are shown. The system provided chilled water (6 deg C) and hot water (81 deg C) accross all load and ambient conditions. The system could be easily controlled for a range of cooling and/or heating duties, 0 to 81 kilowatts of cooling coincident with 210 kilowatts of heating. In the summer design case of 100 kilowatts cooling, a requirement of 10 kilowatts water heating was assumed. The design is technically viable and the component characteristics are typical of the equipment types. For a 100 kilowatt cooling load the turbo-machinery required is larger than those made for aerospace environmental control systems, but not the chemical process sector. A detailed design of the switched reluctance motor to drive the compressor will be required but its size and general construction is not unusual. The type of heat exchangers proposed are already manufactured for the chemical process sector.
