Résumé

Frosting is a phenomenon that takes place on a surface that has been cooled to a temperature below solidification temperature of water vapour in air. Frosting occurs either by sublimation or by solidification of condensate on the surface, and the frost layer is a porous layer of ice and air. The advances in air-conditioning and refrigeration technology have brought about new frosting problems in several fields, as well as a broadening of the temperature range in which frosting occurs. Frosting is a transient phenomenon in which both heat transfer and mass transfer take place simultaneously. It is common in nature as well as in industries. It can be influenced by numerous factors, both from air-side and from cooling surface side. Besides, the porous layer of air and ice makes the theoretical analysis difficult.
