Résumé

This study assesses the benefits of heat pumps in mitigating global warming. The impact of cooling and refrigeration equipment is included. Extract from the table of contents: heat pumps, the energy system, and the environment (refrigerants, application of refrigerants); study classifications; overview of the data (performance factors of air conditioners/reversible heat pumps, supermarket refrigeration equipment and chillers, emissions from refrigerants); greenhouse gas emissions from air conditioners, supermarket refrigeration equipment and chillers. A total of 21 studies from Austria, Japan, Switzerland, USA, and Germany, as well as two international points of view from Eurelectric and the IIR, dealing with the impact of heat pumps on the greenhouse effect are identified and reviewed: one deals with the energy impact of heat pumping technologies, six examine the effect of heat pumps on greenhouse gas emissions in general, fifteen studies examine the effect of alternative heating technologies, and four compare heat pumps with district heating from cogeneration.
