Résumé

The authors report on magnetocaloric properties of this compound undergoing a first-order phase transition from ferromagnetic martensite to paramagnetic austenite. Experimental results obtained revealed that magnetic entropy change delta-S(M) calculated from isothermal magnetization curves is largest in the alloys with x= 0.18 - 0.20. delta-S(M) in the alloys with a higher Ni excess was found to be considerably smaller. Direct measurements of the adiabatic temperature change delta-T in these alloys revealed similar tendency. The observed experimental results are attributed to the fact that with increasing Ni excess x, simultaneous decrease in magnetization saturation and in the lattice entropy change at martensitic transformation temperature is observed.
