Comparaison du modèle d’écoulement laminaire et des modèles d’écoulement turbulent RANS et LES (simulation des grandes structures de turbulence) pour l’analyse de fuites de R290.

Comparison of Laminar vs. RANS and Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulent flow models for the analysis of R290 leakage.

Résumé

From the perspective of preventing global warming, much attention has been paid to propane (R290) as a low GWP, natural refrigerant. To widely utilize R290 refrigerant despite its high flammability, accurate prediction of the flammable region under turbulent conditions is essential but challenging. Although the RANS model has been used to quantify flammable regions, the averaging nature of its concept makes it difficult to predict accurate convective diffusion. In this study, we report herein a strong dependency of the turbulent behaviour on the model, where laminar, RANS and LES flow models were compared. Variations of about 10% were found in flammable volumes and delays in the flammability duration. More careful tuning of the simulation conditions gives rise to improved quantitative prediction of the flammable region that is required for utilization of natural high-flammability refrigerants.
