Résumé

In general, multiple adsorbent beds are essential to make sorption cooling continuous. The recent developments, however, indicate that solid sorption cooling in a single bed can be made continuous if pressurisation and depressurisation occur in quick succession. The typical operating frequency is in the millihertz range. Though the principle of operation of this newly developed continuous solid sorption process is similar to that of a pulse tube, they are fundamentally different. A comparative study in terms of the temperature profiles corresponding to different test conditions and regenerator configurations has been presented in this paper to under the basic phenomena. While the concept of concentric tube regenerator with adsorbent (activated carbon) has been used
in one of the configurations, the other two arrangements makes use of metal foam regenerator with and without adsorbent.
