Résumé

An ammonia CO2 cascade system shows better performance in the case study presented, the benefits are as follows: removal of a potentially hazardous fluid (NH3) from production areas; operation of the low temperature system at positive pressures, offering enhanced reliability; a more compact installation, using fewer, smaller compressors and smaller pipework; minimizing the NH3 charge and containing it in one area, offering simplified regulatory requirements; a high efficiency CO2-cycle, benefiting from very good heat transfer coefficients in the evaporators and condensers; lower capital costs; lower operational costs, particularly energy costs.
