Résumé

The independence between pressure and temperature in supercritical conditions is a well known factor that introduces a new parameter of control in supercritical CO2 refrigerating plants. Gas-cooler pressure is commonly selected as a regulating variable to optimize the cooling capacity and the COP of the plants. Currently, two different CO2 transcritical cycles are the most generalized in commercial applications. The first one consist in a double expansion stage (back-pressure + thermostatic valve) with a storage tank between both stages. This cycle is commonly applied in large refrigerating plants since it is able to control both the gas-cooler pressure and the degree of superheat at the evaporator. The second one is a cycle with a single expansion system (back-pressure) used in low capacity plants, which is only able to regulate the gas-cooler pressure and therefore operates with floating pressure and degree of superheat at the evaporator. This paper presents, from an experimental approach, the behaviour and performance of both supercritical cycles working in the same experimental plant under similar operating conditions in evaporator and gas cooler (temperature and volumetric flow rate of secondary fluids).
