Résumé
To reduce the considerable drawbacks of ammonia (R717), the multicriteria approach to tailored refrigerant selection is developed as a compromise among energy efficiency, environmental impact, toxicity, and flammability. The most promising roadmap to make a harmonious decision is based on the practically unlimited merging features of ammonia with "breeding" components that amend its objectionable properties. The class of refrigerants recommended for industrial applications including more 60 pure substances (Calm and Hourahan, 2007) is considered as possible "breeding" components for ammonia. The main aims of this work are two-fold: to apply a new viewpoint employing artificial neural networks and global phase diagram approaches for classification of phase behaviour types in ammonia - industrial refrigerant mixtures especially to recognize azeotropic and near azeotropic states; to estimate the COP and pressure ratio for the vapour compression cycle working on the blends of interest via normal boiling points and critical parameters of components using restricted performance data as training set for construction of the artificial neural networks relationships. The cycle performance forecast is based on the one-fluid models of the equation of state of binary mixture for calculation of thermodynamic properties, pressure ratio, and COP. To construct the adequate phase diagrams for ammonia blends the phase equilibrium data for components eliminating the ammonia disadvantages are discussed and some information for component selection is given. The results are useful for engineering practice to make decision about desirable improvements of ammonia negative features.
