Résumé

In the efforts to reduce the potential climate impact of RAC (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning) systems, solutions using lower GWP fluids are being sought. But it is also agreed that the Life Cycle Climate Performance (LCCP) including the indirect emissions from energy consumption is the most relevant factor. The LCCP is also inter related to the Life Cycle Cost (LCC) of such systems. A condition for a control of HFCs providing real reductions in equivalent CO2 emissions, will be a right balance between cost and Climate Performance of systems over their life time. So far, no synthetic methodology is available to combine both approaches, and to evaluate the impact of technological choices on Life Cycle Cost and Climate Performance simultaneously. This paper is suggesting elements toward a method to bridge this gap and provide tools for analysis, with examples applied to chiller technologies.
