Résumé

In this paper, energy consumption of a magnetocaloric heat circulator based on self-heat recuperation technology has been derived in terms of temperature-entropy diagram. The obtained value was compared with the minimum work needed for heat circulation. The theoretical minimum work needed for heat circulation was derived from the exergy destruction during heat exchange when temperature difference is kept at its minimum throughout the heat exchange. It was seen that although magnetocaloric heat circulator can circulate large amount of process stream heat with very small work input, sensitivity of the working magnetocaloric material’s heat capacity to the applied magnetic field results in extra exergy destruction.
