Résumé

Refrigerating units operating with cascade cycles are considered a convenient solution in terms of safety and cost for applications demanding very low temperatures, such as food preservation. The principle behind the cascade system relies on connecting two compression cycles via an intermediate heat exchanger and its theoretical performance justifies experimental trials. This paper reports the results of tests conducted on a prototype operating with a cascade cycle. The performance of the test bed was ascertained using R-404A as the high-temperature fluid and R-23 as the low-temperature fluid. Finally innovative refrigerant fluid binary system, i.e. CO2 (R-744)+ N2O (R-744A) has been used in order to work to lower temperatures than CO2 (R-744).
