Résumé

The usage of CO2 in refrigeration systems recently becomes more frequent due to both being a natural refrigerant and its thermo–physical properties. In this study, the design, construction and experimental performance tests of a cascade R404A/CO2 refrigeration system at specified operating conditions are aimed. The investigated refrigeration system contains two cycles in which carbon dioxide and R404A refrigerants are used in high and low temperature cycles, respectively. The performance of the CO2 evaporator having 6 kW cooling capacity has been tested for specified standard room condition to be – 34°C according to ANSI/ASHRAE 33 (2000) standards. The temperature, pressure, mass flow rate and humidity measurements from different components of the system have been collected using a data acquisition system. Then data is processed to evaluate the overall coefficient of performance (COP) of the cascade refrigeration system.
