Development challenges in CO2 commercial refrigeration systems.

Résumé

Carbon dioxide refrigeration systems have been developed and deployed in supermarkets over the last 10 years starting with low temperature (LT) systems condensing against a conventional medium temperature system. Within the last 5 years, also medium temperature (MT) system were deployed in the market using a transcritical cycle against ambient temperature and double expansion to address safety concerns. These systems are now offered as standard solutions in a broad range between 30-250 kW. Additionally to the market move towards carbon footprint reduction, the market also requires to implement further technology advancement and further energy savings solution with high efficient integrated heating systems. This paper presents energy efficient integrated waste heat recovery systems for refrigeration systems, as well as a technology advancement with regard to cost competitive safety devices for service groups in CO2 systems.
