Résumé

The goal of the work reported in this memory was to perform an experimental study to support the development of efficient adsorbers for adsorptive air conditioning applications. The activity was carried out by the use of a single stage lab-scale adsorption chiller connected to a test bench able to reproduce a wide range of operating conditions typical for HVAC applications. The aim of tests was to understand how some of the adsorber’s design parameters (i.e., the grain size of the sorbent and the heat exchanger’s geometry) can affect the performance of an adsorptive chiller in particular in terms of Volumetric Cooling Power (VCP - W/dm3). The work was performed on adsorbers realized embedding grains of the sorbent AQSOA FAM Z02 into aluminum finned flat tubes heat exchangers while water was used as refrigerant. Results showed the existence of a “grain size insensitive regime”, function of the HEx’s thickness, where the heat transfer between the HEx and the sorbent is the dominant parameter. Under this mode, keeping constant the ratio (S/m)= /, the VCP is invariant with the sorbent grain size. On the contrary, the grain sizes should be taken into account to evaluate the influence of the geometry aspect of the adsorber (AdHEx) on the performance, at S/m= constant. The measurements demonstrated that the HEX’s thickness can affects the VCP due to the increasing of the inter-particle mass transfer resistance of the refrigerant vapor flowing across the AdHEx. Above results confirm what previously observed measuring the kinetics of the same configuration of adsorbers by the Gravimetric version of the Large Temperature Jump method (Santamaria et al., 2013).
