Thermal destruction of CFCs.

Résumé

The paper discusses thermal technologies applied to the destruction of CFCs and HCFCs while complying with world air pollution control standards to eliminate any adverse environmental consequences. Conventional incineration technologies are discussed, as is the use of cement kilns for destruction. Dry, wet, and semi-dry air pollution control technologies are discussed. Practical information is provided regarding refractory materials which can be used in the furnaces to resist both HCl and HF gas phase products of combustion which are produced during chlorofluorocarbon destruction. Actual operating results from CFC disposal facilities are provided and a typical incineration plant design for CFCs is discussed.
