Résumé

The paper is aimed to develop a high performance two-stage rotary solid desiccant cooling system, which is expected to have a higher thermal COP over the traditional system design. The desiccant wheel is advantageous as it can perform better even under lower regeneration temperature (60-80°C) due to the use of a novel composite desiccant materials. A higher COP can be definitely achieved based on both theoretical and experimental results in two-stage desiccant cooling system (TSDC) compared with single stage system, because of the cooling effect adopted between the two dehumidification stages that can inhibit the side effect of the adsorption heat effectively. Experiment has been done and it is found that in ARI summer condition, thermal COP of the TSDC is more than 1.0 with regeneration temperature in the range 50-70°C, and in ARI humid condition, experimental thermal COP is more than 1.0 with regeneration temperature in the range 50-80°C. Also found is that the effect of the first stage desiccant wheel is important, and the effect of the second stage desiccant wheel is complex and a balance should be made in order to improve the system performance.
