Développement et caractérisation de la performance d'une pompe à chaleur eau-eau réversible fonctionnant au propane.

Development and performance characterisation of a water to water reversible heat pump working with propane.

Résumé

This paper presents a summary of the development and performance study of a reversible water to water heat pump working with propane (R290) and designed for a nominal cooling capacity of 16 kW. The paper describes the steps involved in the design of the heat pump working with propane as opposed to the reference R407C unit, with regard to all system components: compressor, heat exchangers, expansion valve and refrigerant circuit. A semihermetic compressor had to be employed for the propane prototype since no scroll compressor manufacturer allows for the moment the use of their compressors with flammable refrigerants. Special care was taken in the reduction of the volume of the refrigerant circuit in order to minimise the propane charge. The prototype gave excellent performance with superior COP on both refrigeration and heating modes in comparison with the reference R407C unit.
