Résumé

Evaporative vacuum cooling has currently been considered a promising fast cooling technique. Thereby, this work reports the development and experimental calibration of a mathematical model that describes the vacuum evaporative cooling of water. The mathematical model was developed considering the typical configuration of the evaporative cooling system. This comprises two major components: a vacuum chamber and a vacuum pump. The equations of the model were solved using the engineering equation solver (EES), a computer program that can be used for the numerical solution of equations. The experimental calibration was made according to two important aspects: the air leakages, in a specific experimental system, and the particular details of the water evaporation in the cooling process. The results obtained show that, with the calibration functions determined, there is a reasonable agreement between the predicted results and the measured data for the several water volumes studied.
