Résumé

In many buildings, the installed cooling capacity of the chiller plant is greater than actually required. Plant oversizing is a consequence of one or more of the following: lack of actual end-use data; inadequacy in cooling load calculation methods; possible misuse of safety margins or standby capacity for sizing chillers; fee arrangements of consulting engineers, which may be linked to the total sum of project investment; speculative nature of some buildings (actual usage may ultimately differ from what was originally intended).
