Résumé
This study is intended to provide some fundamental data obtained from a series of experiments on the cocurrent slug flow in three vertical mesoscale tubes (I.D. 8, 5 and 2 mm). Experiments were carried out in two experimental setups. Pressure drop and mass transfer rates were measured in one and bubble velocity and optical images were obtained in the other. CO2 and deionized water were working fluids in the mass transfer setup, where two-phase pressure drop was measured with a differential pressure transducer and liquid-phase CO2 concentration with a pH meter. Velocity of nitrogen bubbles in water was measured with two pairs of dot laser and infrared sensors, where variation of light intensity was detected when a bubble crosses the two laser beams successively. Volumetric mass transfer coefficients, bubble velocity and the lengths of bubble and liquid slug are presented. It was found that the mass transfer data for 8 and 5 mm tubes were consistent with each other but not with 2 mm’s. The bubble velocity for 8 mm tube was found in agreement with the observations in the literature.
