Résumé

In Korea, there have been studies on thermal energy storage (TES) since early 1980s. Both water heat storage system and PCM-based latent heat storage system have been examined almost at the same time. Thanks to night thermal storage power services, a lot of water heat storage systems have been distributed. Since early 1990s, the ice storage system was distributed. Since mid 1990s, in addition, an ice slurry system was introduced. Entering the new millennium, there have been empirical studies on micro-encapsulated PCM (MPCM). However, the latent heat storage system has not been widely distributed except for an ice storage system. Recently, the distribution of a TES system which requires a lot of early stage investments has slowed down due to global economic slump. Because of spread of negative perspective on nuclear power generation and increase in demand for levelling electric power, however, it is likely that the distribution of TES system would be further accelerated in Korea.
