Résumé

DME, which is a clean fuel to replace gasoline, has a promising future in China. DME also has good thermodynamic properties for refrigeration application. This paper analyzes refrigeration performance of DME and influences by pressure drop and liquid-vapour heat exchanger. Compared with R-134a, performances of DME were investigated in an R-134a bus air conditioner. The results show that because of low viscosity of liquid and vapour, the pressure drop of refrigeration systems using DME is lower and the refrigeration efficiency is higher than those of systems using R-134a. DME can be 'dropped-in' to replace R-134a in auto air conditioners, but spring force of the thermal expansion valve should be enhanced, otherwise, superheat at the evaporator outlet would become lower and a bit of liquid DME would enter into the compressor.
