Résumé
A magnetic heat pump has several advantages, such as not generating chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) emissions, not needing a compressor, and generating potential energy savings, over conventional vapor compression heat pumps that use gas refrigerants. However, in the current stage of development, magnetic heat pump systems have not yet been commercialized because of their lower refrigeration capacity and higher cost compared to vapor compression heat pumps. A magnetocaloric material, which acts as the refrigerant for the magnetic heat pump, has a narrow operating temperature range. It is difficult to generate a large temperature change in a heat pump system. By contrast, a multi-layered AMR, in which magnetocaloric materials with different operating temperature ranges are arranged in a multi-layered, is expected to expand the generated temperature span. In this study, lanthanum-based compounds that exhibit large changes in magnetic entropy were adopted as magnetocaloric materials, and a layered magnetic regenerator was created using these materials. The type of material and amount of material filled in the multi-layered were varied, and the temperature difference generated was measured. The relationship between the operating conditions and layered configuration was also clarified, and the conditions for obtaining the maximum temperature difference were determined.
