Résumé

This paper reports an experimental and numerical study of heat transfer in metal foams. Experiments have been conducted with commercially available metallic foams which are subjected to constant and uniform heat flux using air as the fluid medium. The effects of Re, porosity, PPI (pores per inch) on enhancement of heating transfer were measured. Since the complex structure of metal foam, there is no direct simulation application. In open literatures, different assumptions are adopted for fluid phase and solid phase temperature; they are thermal equilibrium assumption and nonthermal equilibrium. In this paper, thermal equilibrium is applied, which is the essence prerequisite to simulate heat exchanger using FLUENT.
