Résumé

This paper makes the theoretical investigations on the phase angle between the velocity and pressure of the outlet gas of the Oxford-type linear compressor providing powers for the pulse tube cryocooler (PTC). The cold finger’s design and the compression space have great effects on this angle. The charge pressure, the operating frequency, the stroke, the reject temperature, and the cooling temperature also affect this phase angle. The angle’s effects on compressor’s performance are analysed. The experimental investigations are conducted on the compressor driving a Stirling-type PTC operating at 40-120 K developed in the authors’ laboratory. As the frequency increases from 38 Hz to 54 Hz, the angle decreases from 97.6° to 56.9°. As the temperature increases from 70 K to 100 K, the angle only changes about 5°. As the stroke increases, the angle increases about 4°. The optimal phase angle for this PTC turns out to be 70°.
