Résumé

This paper describes the TRNSYS model developed to investigate the techno-economic feasibility of a small-scale trigeneration system for residential or small business applications. A 210 m2 single family home located in Ontario and equipped with a commercially available 6 kWe micro cogeneration system where cooling is provided by a chiller relying on either absorption or adsorption principles was simulated. The results anticipated reductions of approximately 25-35% in primary energy consumption, 150% in GHG emissions and 60% in utility costs. However, it was found more work is needed to address the relatively high cost of sorption systems and low operating times.
