Résumé
With the increasing needs for energy efficiency and environmental protection, much effort has been made to achieve the ‘sustainability’ issue in the building sector. Architects and owners try to get local or international green building certifications in order to verify the environmental performance of their buildings. Various green technologies and energy efficient design strategies have been adopted to improve the environmental performance of a building. These technologies and strategies may affect the building occupants’ satisfaction and work efficiency as well. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for more information on how occupants interact with these technologies. Also, it is necessary to suggest some ideas to improve the technologies to increase the occupants’ satisfaction and comfort. This study presents the methodologies to evaluate and improve the green building technologies by use of post occupancy evaluation. POE was conducted for an office building which earned the highest grade in various certification schemes – Korea Building Energy Efficiency Grading System, Korea Green Building Grading Systems and LEED. A questionnaire was developed for evaluating green building technologies applied in the building in terms of awareness, satisfaction, and utilization. Answers from 222 occupants were collected and analyzed. Some technologies showed good awareness and satisfaction, but there were also a few technologies with lower level of satisfaction than we expected. If these technologies are applied in future buildings after improving or modifying based on the POE results, it can be an effective way to increase people’s satisfaction as well as to improve the environmental performance.
