Résumé

This work analyses, from an experimental approach, the internal heat exchanger (IHX) effect on a CO2 refrigeration plant operating in transcritical conditions. The analysis is based on the plant's performance comparison when operating with and without IHX under similar working conditions. A number of 60 experimental tests distributed at two evaporating levels (-10 and -15ºC), at two gas cooler outlet temperatures each (31 and 34ºC) and for a wide range of gas cooler pressures (74.4 to 105.9 bar) were performed. The first part of the paper analyses the thermal effectiveness of the IHX for the different operating conditions and presents a relation for its effectiveness estimation. The second part focuses on the influence the IHX will have on the energetic performance of the plant. The results show a maximum increment on the cooling capacity of 10% and on COP of 11% when this element is used. Moreover, an increment up to 12ºC in compressor discharge temperature has been measured when working at -15ºC of evaporating temperature.
