Résumé

In this study, an automotive R744 transcritical air conditioner with a manual expansion valve was instrumented to measure various parameters to evaluate the effect of CO2 mass charge on the system performance, especially on the cooling capacity, COP, compressor consumed power, state parameters, and the transcritical cycle transformation. The experimental results show that the system performance is strongly related to the CO2 mass charge and the formation of the transcritical cycle depends on the CO2 charge greatly. The COP has a maximum value at a specific R744 charge. Undercharged R744 systems could result in a fast decrease of the cooling capacity and COP; however, overcharged R744 systems could cause an abrupt increase of the compressor consumed work. This experiment can well interpret the system performance and transcritical cycle transformation with the CO2 mass charge.
